Anthony received his B.Sc (Hons) and PhD in Organic Chemistry from the National University of Ireland, Galway. His Ph.D work focused on the synthetic and mechanistic aspects of cycloaddition reactions using water as a solvent. He then moved to an industrial position with GlaxoSmithKline followed by postdoctoral positions at University College Dublin and the University of Cambridge. His current research interests are at the interface of chemistry and biology focusing on using small molecules to probe biological functions.
